SYMBOLS & SONGS
Symbols
Women’s Service Organization foundation is symbolized in eight ways. First, the two colors of Women’s Service Organization are Maroon and White. Maroon represents service and white represents friendship and equality. The white rose is the symbol representing the vows taken as pledges, and the crest is the symbol Women’s Service Organization sisters vow to keep sacred. It is composed of a white rose bud centered on a maroon triangle. The scales represent quality, while the heart symbolizes the love between friends. Each point of the triangle symbolizes the foundation of service, friendship and equality. The overlapped circles in the rosebud represent unity among members.
White Rose Poem
By Kay Eddins Sherwood
When you take your vows for service
And have started on the way,
You have joined your hearts with others
In a bond that will always stay.
The hours that you serve now
And friendships made today
With the candle flame that led you
And the Rose that is here to stay.
One White Rose to carry
A friendship along the way.
One White Rose for service
To help someone today.
One White Rose for equality
For sisterhood always.
One White Rose for WSO
Is a Rose that is here to stay.
Now that you are an Active Member,
The flame of service grows and grows.
The Maroon and white of equality
Has been built by one White Rose,
And the spirit that dwells within us
Will never wilt away,
Because the one White Rose for WSO
Is a Rose that is her to stay.
One White Rose to carry
A friendship along the way.
One White Rose for service
To help someone today.
One White Rose for equality
For sisterhood always.
One White Rose for WSO
Is a Rose that is here to stay.
This poem was written for the 1960 Initiation Ceremony by an Active Member for the first Pledge Class of Women’s Service Organization.

Women’s Service Organization Songs
Pledge Song
We are pledges of WSO
We are always on the go
Signatures from everyone,
Only part of what is done.
Hours twenty we work and slave;
Active Memberships we crave.
Service is our main intent,
We will work wherever sent!
Work, serve, grow in WSO.
Active Song
High upon the Plains of Texas
Where the breezes blow,
Works of Sisterhood for Service,
Known as WSO.
To Maroon and white our colors
We will be faithful be;
To our vows of friendly service,
And equality.
As we take our vows for friendship
With the pure white rose,
Unified in serving others,
Hail to WSO.
Loyal to our vows and sisters,
Richer lives we’ll know,
As we learn the joys of service,
Hail to WSO.
